Shu Lea Cheang, artist, conceptualist and filmmaker, has worked in the field of net-based installation, social interface, networked performance and film production. Her work traverses between hard and soft, sex and polities, fiction and reality, fantasia and earth-bound. Noted for BRANDON (1998-1999) , the first Guggenheim Museum web art commission and collection, she continues her work in several narrative streams. Locker Baby Project initiated in 2001 includes Baby Play (shown 2001 at NTT[ICC] Tokyo), Baby Love (shown 2005 at Palais de Tokyo, Paris) and Baby Work (yet to be realized). She made two feature films, Fresh Kill (1994) was premiered at Berlin film festival and included in Whitney Biennale 1995; I.K.U. (2000) was premiered at Sundance Film Festival and shown internationally in commercial cinema, museums and festivals. In 2007, she was commissioned a new media work Mobiopera by Sundance film festival New Frontier. In 2008, she launched a 12 hour mega-sonic performance Moving Forest with AKA the castle at Transmediale08 Berlin.
